How does the tea get spilled? And what happens when it does? "The Incident At The Pier" takes a look at petty high school drama in mockumentary form. A deep look into how a single moment can explode into high school drama.

Abby Bright & Grace Joo began their filmmaking career together when they landed in the same 3rd hour film class at Troy Athens High School in Troy, Michigan. Together, they won first place at the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Student Awards for their anti-smoking public service announcement, which was their first project together. Having conquered smoking awareness, they decided to make a short film, and, with the help of their classmates, they ended up with The Incident At The Pier.

This is a story of a broken star and a boy desperate for his dream. A broken star that features in the form of most unwanted two-leaf clover reaches out to help a desperate boy to regain hope and be loved again. Eventually, the star could shine again and becomes a true shining star by truly loving itself and sharing love with the boy to shine together.

The broken star couldn't shine like others, but the star chose its own way to shine, to be a star for the boy.

My name is Ejun Hong from South Korea, currently living in Slovakia! I was born in Edmonton, Canada in 2002 and spent my childhood. I spent most of my years in South Korea, and currently living in Bratislava, Slovakia! I’m a grade 10 student dreaming of being an animation director. I started to dream about being an animation director since I was in grade 5. The biggest thing that captured my heart was animator’s ability to deliver hope, happiness, and inspiration through animated films. I hope one day, I could be the one who fills the world with hope through my animated films!

I made this animation for my 92 years old grandfather, who lost his mother when he was only 3 years old.

Now my grandfather is suffering from Alzheimer’s and losing his precious memories. However, whenever he hears the word "mother", he is moved to tears. Although a sudden death took his mother away from him, it could never stop his love and longing for his mother.

My grandfather is stepping forward the last day of his life. I hope one day he will finally meet his mother and be nestled in her arms, saying that he has lived a good life so that his mother could be proud of him.

My short film named “And Again And Again And Again” is a symbol of how beauty is ephemeral. I am inspired from the “snow white and seven drafts” fable. Although beauty is an addiction but we wıll all die, this is a continuous cycle. I want to also underline how the stereotype of feminine beauty oppresses us. Even if in my short movie ı used female actors the same situation could be for man and transgenders too.

Marta Krunić

2018

Martin is a boy who lives in a small village near Kutina. The beginning of the film follows his search for a pair of glasses from outer space. He finds them and uses them at school to do well at tests and examinations. Somewhere between dreams and reality, in a dimension unknown to man, a dimension on the verge of shadows, a girl enters his life. Her name is Zoe. They fall in love. Due to its abstract nature, the film is multi-dimensional, allowing for an individual interpretation of the story, particularly its ending. It is atmospheric, detail-oriented and full of fairy tale elements.

My name is Marta Krunić. I am 14 years old and I live in Kutina. I was born in Pakrac on 29th of May 2004. I have been a member of the school film group since fifth grade. The mentor of the film group in our school is the technical culture teacher Goran Šporčić. Every year the group makes several successful films (feature, documentary, experimental). Some of them have received awards at international festivals such as the documentary film "Korita" - special award "Đakovački rezovi" 2016 and "The Dubrovnik Film Festival for the Children and the Youth of the Mediterranean Countries" - the best children's documentary film 2016. We are very proud of the short film ''0+0'' which has been selected and competed at 15 international film festivals across the globe. According to the panel of expert judges, it was the second best short film at the 55th Croatian Children's Film Festival. The film group has been working since our school was founded. Throughout its history, many pupils have been invoved in its activities, expressing their creativity in this way.
